What Do Vampires Really Look Like
Your vampire stories depict us across a wide gamut. From hideous creatures with drool handing from our chins to beautiful specimens of human kind. We have even been shown to start at one end of this spectrum and, at will, shift to the other end. In some cases, your lore has us change to other animals or a, my favorite, a mist.

The truth is far less interesting. For starters, we can not turn into anything other than what we are. We can not shift from one appearance to another any more than you can. We look as we were created. If a vampire was ugly before his or her change, he or she will be ugly after the change and vice versa.

There is a preference among my kind to only select vampires from our beautiful victims, but that, obviously, isn’t a universal truth. Your myths came from somewhere, and they came from seeing our less attractive ranks.

Thus, there is no vampire look, though we do have a habit of letting our sense of style fall behind the times. I, for one, am fond of gangster suits from the 20s. You might say I look out of step with the current times, but others might simply think I look dapper.

The real way to tell a vampire is through the eyes. No, they do not look like an animal’s eyes. They have a misty appearance, like a light cataract. The pupil remains visible, it is simply behind a haze.

Of course if you ever have the chance to look into a vampire’s eyes, it is more likely that you would come under their influence than realize what stands before you. Most who look deeply into our eyes die.
